The right vanity is the biggest one that fits comfortably – not the biggest one that squeezes in. Here's how we help customers pick a size, room by room.
Start with the rule that decides most bathrooms
You need at least 15″ from the centre of the toilet to the edge of the vanity. Take your wall length, subtract the space the toilet needs, subtract any door trim, and what's left is your maximum vanity width. Then measure it properly – our guide on how to measure for a vanity walks you through it.
Powder rooms and small condo bathrooms: 24″–30″
A 24″ to 30″ vanity gives you a full-size sink and a bit of counter without crowding the room. If your bathroom door swings in, check it clears the countertop. Our 25″ vanity has a top that can be trimmed to 24″ for tight spaces.
The typical 5-foot bathroom: 30″–36″
The most common bathroom in Metro Vancouver condos and older homes is about 5 feet wide, with a tub along one wall and the toilet and vanity on the other. In most of these, a 30″ to 36″ vanity fits alongside the toilet. A 36″ gives noticeably more drawer space if you can keep that 15″ toilet clearance.
Main and family bathrooms: 40″–55″
With more wall to work with, a 40″ to 55″ single-sink vanity is the sweet spot. You get a centred sink with counter space on both sides and enough drawers for a family. This is where our Serenity 49″, with three drawers on each side, really earns its keep.
Master ensuites: 56″–75″, single or double
Above about 56″ you have a choice:
- Double sink – two people getting ready at the same time. Each sink needs its own drain, so check your plumbing or plan for a plumber.
- Large single sink – more continuous counter space and more drawers (up to 7 on our larger models), one drain. Many couples prefer this – there's more usable counter and less to clean.
Height and depth
Modern vanities are usually 32″–36″ tall with the top – taller than many older 30″ vanities, and more comfortable for most adults. Standard depth is about 21–22″. Each of our listings shows the exact dimensions. If space in front of the vanity is tight, let us know and we'll point you to the right model.
Still between two sizes?
Go with the one that keeps your clearances. A vanity that crowds the toilet or blocks a drawer is something you'll notice every day. Our quartz tops can be cut down if you're just over a size.
